A PRAYER FOR LEADERS
지도자를 위한 기도
May you have the grace and wisdom
To act kindly, learning
To distinguish between what is
Personal and what is not.
은혜와 지혜를 가지고 친절히 행하며
공사를 구분하는 법을 배우소서.
May you be hospitable to criticism.
May you never put yourself at the center of things.
비판을 너그럽게 받아들이소서.
자신을 사물의 중심에 두지 마소서.
May you act not from arrogance but out of service.
오만함으로 행하지 말고 오직 섬기는 마음으로 하소서.
May you work on yourself
Building up and refining the ways of your mind.
자신의 성장을 위하여 노력하되
마음의 길을 내고 고상하게 다듬어 가소서.
May you learn to cultivate the art of presence
In order to engage with those who meet you.
만나는 사람들과 잘 어울리기 위하여
관계의 기술을 연마하는 법을 배우소서.
When someone fails or disappoints you
May the graciousness with which you engage
Be their stairway to renewal and refinement.
누군가 실패하거나 당신을 실망시킬 때
당신이 베푸는 자애로움이
그들을 새롭게 하고 고상하게 하는 길이 되게 하소서.
May you treasure the gifts of the mind
Through reading and creative thinking
So that you continue to be a servant of the frontier
Where the new will draw its enrichment from the old,
And you never become a functionary.
독서와 창조적인 사고를 통하여
마음의 은사를 소중히 쌓아가소서.
계속적으로 개척지를 섬기는 자가 되어
새로운 것은 오래된 것에서 그 풍성함을 이끌어내고,
그리고 당신은 결코 기능만을 다하는 사람이 되지 마소서.
May you know the wisdom of deep listening,
The healing of wholesome words,
The encouragement of the appreciative gaze,
The decorum of held dignity,
The springtime of the bleak question.
깊이 경청하는 지혜와,
온전한 말의 치유와,
인정하는 눈길의 격려와,
억제된 위엄에서 오는 예절과
삭막한 질문을 녹이는 봄철을 아소서.
May you have a mind that loves frontiers
So that you can evoke the bright fields
That lie beyond the view of the regular eye.
개척지를 사랑하는 마음을 가지고
평범한 눈의 시야 너머에 있는
밝은 들판을 떠오르게 하소서.
May you have good friends
To mirror your blind spots.
좋은 친구를 가져
당신의 맹점을 비추어 알게 하소서.
May leadership be for you
A true adventure of growth.
리더십이 당신에게
성장을 향한 진정한 모험이 되게 하소서. -- John O’Donohue
The Bible, in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, instructs, “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for everyone for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” This poem could be a good guide for following that directive.
성경, 디모데전서 2:1-2는 지시하기를, “그러므로 내가 첫째로 권하노니 모든 사람을 위하여 간구와 기도와 도고와 감사를 하되 임금들과 높은 지위에 있는 모든 사람을 위하여 하라 이는 우리가 모든 경건과 단정함으로 고요하고 평안한 생활을 하려 함이라” 이 시는 그 명령을 따르기 위한 좋은 안내서가 될 것이다.
