우연일까? – 아니면 더 위대한 계획의 일부분일까?

Many people may choose to call random events that suddenly come together as simple “coincidences.” I typically disagree. Such seemingly unrelated occurrences, in my view, are the result of a greater purpose. In fact, I especially enjoy the times when things happen that are unexplainable, yet they turn out so perfectly. As someone has said, “I just love it when a plan comes together!”
많은 사람들이 갑자기 발생하는 무작위의 사건들을 단순한 “우연”이라고 부를지 모른다. 나는 대체적으로 동의하지 않는다. 그와 같이 관계가 없어 보이는 일들은 더 위대한 목적에서 오는 결과라고 나는 본다. 사실 나는 설명할 수 없는 일들이 발생하였으나 그 결과가 완벽하게 나타나는 때가 유난히 기쁘다. 누군가 말한 것처럼 “어떠한 계획이 이루어지는 것이 그냥 좋다!”

Take, for instance, the morning I received an unexpected call from a physician.
내가 한 의사로부터 예기치 않은 전화를 받은 그날 아침을 예로 들어보자.
 
"Rick, I'm trying to hire a sales person to call on businesses," this medical doctor said. "We want someone with strong character and also a person who would be receptive to our faith-based approach to business."
“릭, 내가 업체들을 방문하며 영업을 하는 사람을 채용하려고 하네” 라고 이 의사가 말하였다. “우리는 누군가 개성이 강하고 우리와 같이 믿음을 바탕으로 업체에 접근하는 방식을 수용하는 사람이 필요하네.”
 
At the time no one came to mind, and I thought the likelihood of hearing from someone that would fit my physician friend’s description was very remote. However, I invited him to send me a job description and promised I would keep it on file. I believed that would be the end of that discussion.
그 때에는 아무도 머리 속에 떠오르지 않았고 내 의사친구가 말하는 것과 일치하는 누군가로부터  반응을 들을 가능성은 희박하다고 나는 생각하였다. 하지만 나는 친구에게 업무내용을 보내달라고 청하였고 그것은 파일에 올려놓겠다고 약속하였다. 나는 그것으로 이야기가 끝났다고 생각하였다.
 
It was only a few minutes later, however, when my telephone rang. A young man who had worked part-time for me 10 years before was calling.
그러나 불과 2-3분 후에 전화벨이 울렸다. 10년 전에 시간제로 나에게 와서 일하던 젊은 친구가 전화를 건 것이다.

"Rick," Jason started, "I know you haven't heard from me in years, but I'm in the process of making a career change and as I was praying about it, I felt I should call you. My passion and gifts would be best suited for a medically oriented sales role, and I would prefer working for a Christian. My life was changed in college by the medical profession, and I've always had a desire to give back to that industry."
제이슨이 말을 꺼냈다. “릭, 제 소식을 여러 해 못 전해 드렸지만, 저는 진로변경을 하는 중이고, 그에 관하여 기도하는 중이어서 당신에게 전화를 하여야 하겠다고 생각하였습니다. 저의 열정과 재능으로 보면 의료 관계 영업직에 가장 적합한 것 같고 그리스도인을 위하여 일하는 것을 더 좋아합니다. 저의 삶은 대학 시절 의료 관계 일을 하며 변화되었는데 그래서 나는 항상 그 의료업에 보답하고 싶은 욕망을 갖고 있었습니다.”

As you can imagine, I was pleasantly surprised – especially by the amazing timing of the two phone calls. But I was not shocked, because I have experienced a number of similar “coincidences” both before and since. It was my pleasure to quickly put Jason in contact with my physician friend.
짐작하시겠지만 나는 유쾌한 기분으로 놀랐는데 – 특별히 그 전화 두 통의 신기한 타이밍에 놀랐다. 그러나 나는 충격을 받지는 않았는데 이유는 내가 그 전에도 그 후에도 여러 번 비슷한 “우연”을 경험했기 때문이다. 나는 기쁜 마음으로 신속하게 제이슨을 내 의사친구와 접촉하도록 하였다.
 
After the introduction and an interview, Jason was hired for the job. Later the doctor told me he had received many applications through a newspaper ad. If he had received Jason's resume through one of those ads, he probably wouldn't have interviewed him. But because of my referral he did consider Jason and felt he was right for the job.
소개를 하고 면접을 한 후에 제이슨은 그 일을 하도록 채용이 되었다. 나중에 의사 친구는 나에게 신문광고를 통하여 많은 지원서를 받았었다고 말해 주었다. 그가 만약 제이슨의 이력서를 그러한 광고를 통하여 받았더라면 아마 면접도 하지 않았을 것이다. 그러나 나의 추천으로 인하여 그는 제이슨을 고려하게 되었고 그 일에 그가 적합하다고 느꼈다.
 
In Proverbs 16:9 we learn, "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps." God also declares, in Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you…plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
잠언 16:9에서 우리는 배운다. “사람이 마음으로 자기 앞길을 계획한다 해도 그 걸음은 여호와께서 이끄신다.” 하나님은 또 예레미야 29:11에서 선포하신다 –“내가 너희를 위해 갖고 있는 계획들을 내가 알고 있으니 그것은 평안을 위한 계획이지 재앙을 위한 것이 아니며  너희에게 미래와 소망을 주기 위한 것이다.”

If you are in the process of implementing some changes or new plans, whether it involves your business, your career or your family, don't forget to make God a part of your strategy. A prayer or two might lead you to exactly where you need to be for accomplishing your goals – perhaps even in a manner that far exceeds your greatest hopes. After all, in Ephesians 3:20 we are assured that the Lord is “able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.
당신이 어떠한 변화나 새로운 계획을 실행하고 있는 중이면 그것이 당신의 사업이나, 직업이나 또는 가족이나 어느 것에 관한 것이든, 하나님을 전략의 일부분이 되도록 하는 것을 잊지 말라. 한 두 번의 기도가 당신의 목표를 완수하는 방향으로 – 아마 당신의 가장 큰 소망을 훨씬 능가하는 방법으로 – 당신을 인도할 수도 있다. 결론적으로 에베소서 3:20 에서 우리는 주님이 ”우리가 구하고 생각하는 것보다 훨씬 더 넘치도록 하실 수 있다.”는 것을 확신하게 된다.

Have you ever experienced an event similar to that described by Rick Boxx, when the circumstances and timing seemed to fit together so well that it seemed it could not be mere “coincidence”? If so, what specifically happened – and what was the ultimate outcome?

The verse from Proverbs cited states that “the heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” How do you respond to that statement?
인용한 잠언 구절은 ” 사람이 마음으로 자기 앞길을 계획한다 해도 그 걸음은 여호와께서 이끄신다.”고 말씀하신다. 그 말에 대하여 어떻게 생각합니까?

 

 

If God truly is actively involved in the details and events that occur in our lives, does that mean we are essentially robots, called to merely carry out what He dictates? Explain your answer.
하나님이 정말로 우리의 삶 중에 일어나는 구제적인 일과 사건에 활발하게 개입한다면 그것이 우리는 본질적으로 로봇이고 그 분이 명령하는 것을 실행하기만 하면 된다는 의미입니까? 답을 말해 보세요.
