What a year 2008 was, filled with unpredictable shifts – in the financial world, politics, life in general. At times it seemed as though everything was spinning out of control, but in celebrating Christmas recently, we were reminded that all of creation is in the control of a loving God who revealed Himself "by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe" (Hebrews 1:2).

For this reason, those who follow Christ should make biblical truths the foundation and context for their financial decision-making. We are God’s stewards, called to manage His resources for His glory. Here are several Scriptural reminders about God's ownership and our stewardship:
이러한 이유로 그리스도를 따르는 자들은 성경의 진리를 재정에 관한 결정을 내리는 근거와 배경으로 삼아야 한다. 우리는 하나님의 청지기들로서 그분의 자원을 그분의 영광을 위하여 관리하도록 부름을 받았다. 여기에 하나님의 주인 되심과 우리의 청지기 직분에 대하여 상기시켜 주는 여러 성경구절이 있다.

• "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1).
“하나님께서 태초에 하늘과 땅을 창조하셨습니다” (창세기 1:1).
• "David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying... 'Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours'" (1 Chronicles 29:10-11).
      “다윗은 온 이스라엘의 모인 무리들이 보는 앞에서 여호와를 찬송하며 말했습니다 …’여호와여, 위대함과 능력과 영광과 승리와 위엄이 다 주의 것입니다. 하늘과 땅에 있는 모든 것이 다 주의 것입니다” (역대상 29:11-12).
• "The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it" (Psalm 24:1).

• "Remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth" (Deuteronomy 8:18).
      “그러나 너희 하나님 여호와를 기억하라. 이는 너희에게 재산을 얻을 수 있는 능력을 주셔서…” (신명기 8:18).
• "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you'" (Hebrews 13:5).
      “돈을 사랑하며 살지 말고 지금 갖고 있는 것으로 만족하십시오. 주께서는 친히 ‘내가 결코 너를 떠나지 않겠고 또 결코 버리지 않을 것이다’라고 말씀하셨습니다” (히브리서 13:5).
• "God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work" (2 Corinthians 9:8).
      “하나님은 여러분에게 모든 은혜를 넘치게 하실 수 있는 분이십니다. 이는 여러분으로 하여금 모든 일에 항상 넉넉해서 모든 선한 일을 넘치게 하게 하시려는 것입니다” (고린도후서 9:8).
• "For everything comes from [God] and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen" (Romans 11:36).
      “만물이 [하나님]에게서 나오고 그분으로 인해 있고 그분에게로 돌아갑니다. 그분에게 영광이 영원토록 있기를 빕니다. 아멘” (로마서 11:36).

• Commit to seeking out – and living out – God's purpose for your life. All of us have limited time and limited financial resources. By gaining a clear view of your God-ordained life purpose, you can begin to use both time and money more effectively. Life does not have a rewind button, so use your fleeting days to focus on things that really matter. If you are married, commit to working with your spouse to resolve financial conflicts by openly communicating about money in a spirit of love and cooperation. Ask the Lord to help you trust Him beyond what may seem reasonable in the eyes of the world.
우리의 삶에 대한 하나님의 목적을 찾는 일에 – 그리고 그에 따라 사는 일에 – 헌신하라. 우리 모두는 제한된 시간과 제한된 재정적 자원을 갖고 있다. 하나님이 정해주신 인생의 목표에 대하여 명확한 견해를 가짐으로써 우리는 시간과 돈을 좀 더 효과적으로 사용할 수 있다. 인생은 되감기 버튼이 없으므로 덧없이 지나가는 세월을 정말로 중요한 일에 집중하여 사용하여야 한다. 결혼을 하였다면 배우자와 돈에 대하여 사랑과 협력의 정신으로 열린 대화를 함으로써 재정적인 어려움을 해결하기 위한 일을 하는데 전념하라. 세상의 눈으로 합리적인 것처럼 보이는 것을 넘어서 주님을 신뢰하도록 주님께 도움을 청하라.
• Make a point of learning and following the financial principles of Scripture. Always remember, you are a steward in service to the King of the universe.
성경의 재정원칙을 배우고 따르는 일을 분명히 하라. 항상 당신은 우주의 왕을 섬기는 청지기 임을 기억하라.
• Honor God with your generosity. The Lord has blessed you with what you have for a reason: "...so that you can be generous on every occasion, and... your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God" (2 Corinthians 9:11). Resolve to begin storing up treasures in heaven, rather than on earth. Begin to give sacrificially, giving up some of your desires so that you can meet the needs of others. Giving is an affair of the heart. Ask the Lord (1) to expand the capacity of your heart toward Him so you can give with cheerfulness, and (2) to prosper you so that you can raise your giving to even higher levels.

• Keep your eyes fixed on your biblically-inspired goals. When the economy is in turmoil, there is tremendous emotional pressure to abandon your plans. Stand strong, trusting that the principles of Scripture are true, and knowing history reliably shows that recoveries have always followed downturns.
너희 눈을 성경이 인도하는 목표에 고정시켜라. 경제가 혼란 중에 있을 때에는 계획을 포기하라는 어마어마한 정신적 압박이 있다. 굳건히 서서 성경의 원칙들이 진실함을 믿고, 침체 다음에는 항상 회복이 따른다는 것을 역사는 충실하게 보여주었음을 알아라.
