Hanwha Commissions 30 MW Solar Cell Manufacturing Line

Spire Corporation's 30-megawatt (MW) per year turnkey solar cell line has been delivered to and commissioned by Hanwha Chemical Corporation Ltd. of South Korea. The line exceeded both its efficiency and throughput specifications producing 15.8% efficient multi-crystalline silicon solar cells at the rate of more than 34 MW per year.

This is Hanwha's entrance into the solar market and is one of the most modern cell factories in Korea.

“We are very pleased with the performance of this solar cell line. Since Hanwha put their confidence in Spire, it was important for us to deliver a line that exceeded specifications. This is Hanwha’s debut to the solar cell market and this line makes them very competitive,” said Roger Little, chairman and CEO of Spire Corporation. “Spire has been providing turnkey PV lines for over twenty years and is known principally for its module lines; the success of this line continues to demonstrate our ability to provide state-of-the-art cell lines as well.”

In October 2008, Spire announced that it would provide Hanwha with a Spi-Line 30C complete turnkey factory to produce up to 30 MW of solar cells per year. This is Hanwha's entrance into the solar market and is one of the most modern cell factories in Korea.
